†When qualification requirements are met
If you open an ESA for someone, they need to be 18 years old or under. Certificates are available at a term of six months, or one to five years. All withdrawals are tax-free and penalty-free as long as they’re used for qualified education expenses.
The money you contribute to the Coverdell ESA stays in-house. We don’t sell our service out to other institutions. That means if you need access to your funds, we can cut you a check that same day.
No. Coverdell Education savings can also be used for approved expenses related to private elementary or high school.
No. Coverdell Education savings must be used for education-related purposes only.
If you decide not to go to college, the funds can be transferred to a sibling, niece, nephew, or even your own children. They do have to be moved out of the Coverdell ESA before you turn 30 years old so you don’t incur a penalty.
The maximum amount is $2,000.
