FORT KENT (Sept. 28, 2017) – Acadia Federal Credit Union proudly lives by the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People,” whether in Maine or across the country.
With coverage of the devastation in Texas andFlorida caused by Hurricane Irma and Tropical Storm Harvey in the forefront of most major news outlets, concerned staffers at Acadia FCU were quick to offer assistance. Together, with a “two-for-one” contribution from Acadia, they collected $1,050 to help hurricane victims.
“Pierrette Boucher, one of Acadia’s head tellers, approached me, because several staffers had expressed interest in pooling funds to send to the victims,” said Alison Voisine, marketing manager for Acadia FCU. “Acadia offered to contribute $2 for every dollar donated by staff. Employees from all five of our branches collected $350 of their own money, which resulted in an additional $700 contribution by Acadia.”
In an effort to make it easy to provide assistance in a safe, secure manner, the Maine Credit Union League (MCUL),in conjunction with the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), has activated a website to raise money for the thousands of credit union employees, volunteers, and members who have been impacted by the recent storms. TheNCUF is now accepting donations through the online disaster relief system CUAid.coop.
“Thanks to our partnership with the National Credit Union Foundation, 100% of all contributions will be designated for this cause and will help credit unions, employees and their members immediately, making it possible for those affected to begin the long process of rebuilding what they have lost,” explained Todd Mason, President of theMCUL.
